Review - Butterfly on a wheel

In the line of Abduction/hostage/ransom genre the latest offering from mainstream hollywood is Butterfly on a Wheel, Starring Pierce Brosnan, Maria Bello and Gerard Butler. A few minutes into the movie, you would find many things you have seen before. In these types of films there's always

1. A perfect family with this loving, caring, handsome husband who makes a lot of money and is in the high point of his career

2. A beautiful wife with the looks of 30's divas and the body of a porn star.

3.A charismatic villain who makes you wonder why the wife doesn't have the hots for this guy.

4.A very cute child with a drawing of her family just to show how perfect they are.;)

5.They always leave their kid(s) with a stranger and go out on a date only to get into a hostage situation where their child is held for ransom.

6.A scene where the husband is separated from his wife only to find out that she's safe a few minutes later.

7.The pair finally realizes the moral values in life and live happily ever after.

So where does this film score? It has all the above said elements, but read those things again. You'll find out that they confer to a genre of movies which are nail-biting from the point of abduction till the end. This film was a flawed roller-coaster ride, flawed because of the portrayal of Pierce's character. They should have paid more attention to this.
There are many films which are masterpieces despite having a loose plot because of the portrayal of the main character. This film despite having a great story line, fails in this very important aspect, where films like Five Easy Pieces
score.

All said, my rating for this film is 6/10.It's good for a day when you have nothing better to do;)
