So what's it that I am trying to convey here? I have observed that only in India and especially, only in tamilnadu Cine actors are more interested in politics than making quality films. Also, only in tamilnadu Cine actors have a huge following. No where else do you hear the terms "Mass hero", "Ultimate Star", "Supreme Star" etc. These coinages make the situation blatantly clear. The people of tamilnadu want an idol they can worship. A role model they can look up to for inspiration. In no other country, especially in hollywood, do you find people so crazy about cine actors that they involve in acts of violence against other actors' fans.
What's even worse is the role of media in fuming these.Recently, Kumudham magazine presented a cover story about who the next superstar is. Vijay TV ran a "Rasigar Express" (A road show for die hard fans) for Vijay and Rajnikanth for their birthdays. Clearly, the interest of these magazines lie in improving their profit margins. Media should give us perspectives. It should propogate ideas. But where did they lose out to greed? It happened when a magazine called "Idhayam Pesugirathu" resorted to fulfilling the reader's need for flesh. It was then a mainstream magazine which got a lot of negative publicity for doing this. But as bernie eccleston once said "Any Publicity is good publicity". The magazine's revenue figures improved drastically. Soon other magazines followed suite. However, they drew a line between scintillation and pornography. Hence comes the story of the decline of ideal journalism.
What do the stars do with this free publicity they get? They turn into megalomaniacs. They want to rule over their fans. They want to rake in money with their popularity. The most disgusting reality is politics has turned into a business.
Here's how I plan to shape my career.
1. Finish My B.Tech without backlogs.
2. Work in a software firm for 5-6 years.
3. Pursue MBA after that or continue working if I like it there.
Here's how a cine star plans his career.
1. Make a movie where he plays a student coming of age. Become a hit with teenagers(age group 16-20).
2. Make an action packed movie where he plays a cop. Become a hit with working men(20-40).
3. Make a family type movie and become a hit with the ladies.
4. Finally make a mass movie where he stands against a corrupt politician and wins against all odds.
5. Stay in the field for 10-15 years.
6. Make sure that his Rasigar Mandram( Fan association) has grown leaps and bounds.
7. Now is his time to strike. He would start a party with "Makkal"(people) and "Munnethram"(Development) in it's name.
8. If things go his way, he would become a CM. If things don't he would have still become a MLA, joined a more dominant party, selling his party for crores of money.
Hence comes my LIE. A satire on the system. I am the "Political star". I plan to skip steps 1-3 and make my mass movie right away. Right after making it, I will start my party. I don't want to become the CM or help the people. I am a very selfish person bent on making money. So, I will sell my party to one of the dominant parties and continue to make movies.
And you know what the best part is? I will do it so openly and still get away with it. The media will still praise me to make profits. The fans won't see me for the phony that I am. They will only see me as one of the kind, caring, and righteous character that I played in one of my monster hit movies.I will always rock and retire with dignity. Political Star ROCKZZZ!!
